It won’t come as a surprise if the car’s transmission ends up failing as a result of this ineffective transmission of fluid. If your transmission begins to overheat, it’s a clear sign that trouble is brewing.

While there’s no outright yes or no to that, nonetheless, being on the lookout for these significant symptoms can save you a lot of time, energy, and money, of having to repair car parts. Several users have asked if there is a low transmission fluid light that would’ve quickly notified them that it’s time for a refill. Outlined below, are the symptoms of low transmission, which will ensure that you do not keep driving when the fluid is low. That is evident in that fact that when it runs low, these components can wear and tear and even to a level where they are beyond repair. Generally, the transmission fluid enables the car’s internal components to run smoothly. This fluid helps to reduce slippage or the tendency for it to occur. However, the fluid helps to absorb this heat and expels the heat through the radiator. Cooling the TransmissionĪs the transmission operates for a long time, it tends to create heat. In the same vein, the torque converter relies on automatic transmission fluid (ATF) to form a hydraulic circuit which enables it to transmit the rotational force between the engine and the transmission. The transmission’s ability to transfer power from the engine to the pavement can be attributed to its fluid. It may just be fluid and not some expensive component of your car, but why is transmission fluid so important? Now, if that question has crossed your mind time and again, here’s what you should know. For this reason, we’ve outlined the low transmission fluid symptoms, which will enable you to know when you need transmission fluid. The effect may be evident whether you’re aware of the early symptoms of low transmission fluid or not. You may be wondering, what happens if the transmission fluid is low? The hard truth is that for each time you delay to top up the fluid, it is one step closer to totally damaging your car’s transmission, its engine, and other essential components. I see nothing obvious unless that shifter looseness is a giveaway.Do you own a car and are you aware that your transmission can encounter problems? If that’s a no, then be informed that there are sure signs that your transmission fluid is low and knowing these symptoms can help you to avoid issues in the long run. The up/down movement is about 1/2 without the primary cover to hold it still. The shaft that the shifter goes on feels loose and can be pulled in/out about 1/8". No big leaks, and it doesn't look like the starter was hanging. Clutches look OK, clutch bearing is good, Stator looks OK. I do all my own work and am ASE certified in automotive transmissions, but have admittedly never pulled a Harley transmission.Īlittle advise aside from taking it to a dealer and paying them more than its worth to replace the trans would be GREATLY appreciated!!!:D:D:D:D Has anyone heard or seen this particular issue? This bike was my Dads and I will never scrap it so I got to fix it. Problem with the shifting fork causing the gears to stay meshed Theories based on forum searches here and HDforum: Im getting ready to take the primary cover off again tomorrow morning and try to figure out if something is broken. Tried several different weights of oil, no change, so I am back at the 20W50 Valvoline 4-Stroke oil I have used since I got the bike(dad owned it before me, bought it brand new and used Valvoline or Screamin Eagle20W50, as per the 1988 manual)

Noise goes away completely when throttle is released or clutch is disengaged. is uneffected by engine RPM, and goes away in 4th gear except under hard load. When riding, noise pitch gets higher with speed only under load with clutch engaged, and changes with speed. starts off low and gets louder with speed in 1st gear. In 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears, noise starts with clutch engaged under load as soon as it starts rolling. Can be heard over the pipes and is loud enough that people stare as I ride by. I have developed a whine from the Primary when under load as follows:
